Samay Triumphs at MedTech 2024: A Historic First for Latin America

Samay, a pioneering company from Latin America, has etched its name in history by clinching the prestigious 2024 Early-Stage Grand Prize at The MedTech Conference. This landmark achievement marks the first time a Latin American company has won this honor, accompanied by a substantial $350,000 non-dilutive grand prize. The accolade significantly bolsters Samay’s mission to combat the misdiagnosis of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), a leading global cause of death.

Samay's groundbreaking product, the Sylvee device, is a testament to innovation in respiratory health care. This device offers comprehensive monitoring of pulmonary volumes, trapped air, respiratory rates, and breathing sounds, providing actionable insights that can vastly improve daily respiratory health management. The Sylvee device addresses a critical and widespread health issue—millions suffer from COPD due to delayed or inaccurate diagnoses, making this innovation a potential lifesaver.

The competition for the grand prize at The MedTech Conference was intense, with finalists including notable entities like BrainSpace, Flow Medical, Juniper Biomedical, and NeuroBionics. However, Samay’s unique vision and advanced technology helped them stand out and secure the win, highlighting the strength and potential of the Latin American medtech sector.

Dr. Dylan Attard, Co-founder & CEO of MedTech World, lauded Samay’s achievement, saying, “We are thrilled to see Samay take home the 2024 Early-Stage Grand Prize. This is a monumental achievement not just for Maria Artunduaga and her team, but it also signifies a leap forward for the broader medtech community. It's truly inspiring to see a Latin American company make such an impact on the global stage. We are eager to witness and support Samay’s continued efforts in enhancing the lives of those battling COPD.”

Looking forward, the medtech industry is gearing up for its next major event, MedTech Malta 2024. Scheduled to take place from November 6th to 8th at the historic Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta, Malta, this flagship event promises to gather top innovators, thought leaders, and industry experts. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in insightful discussions, forge valuable connections, and explore the latest in medical technology. Early registration is recommended to secure a place at this pivotal event, which continues to drive progress in healthcare solutions.
